After 3 days at the resort, you will go for a short discovery of the Mentawai Neolithic culture, and exceptional cultural trip back in time. Our Discovery Tour represents to this day the most comfortable and authentic way to discover the Mentawai culture and tropical forest. Your discovery journey starts from the resort for 4 days of exploration, sleeping 3 nights under tents raised in a traditional “long house”.

This rare experience does not imply any arduous physical effort or danger but requests some adaption to the Mentawai life. Keep in mind that this is not a folkloric tour but an authentic encounter. For adventure-minded travelers only.

Your Discovery Tour departs Tuesday at 14:00 (latest) from Padang Airport and come back to Padang Airport Monday at 12:00.(soonest) for your flight back home. But you can ask for longer tailor-made tours.

Day 1 - Arrival in Padang (Saturday).
A Siloinak Resort staff welcomes you at the airport. You are escorted to a comfortable open air bar with swimming pool until the transfer to the harbor at around 5 / 6 pm. The ferry to the Mentawai Islands leaves at 19:00 for a full night’s crossing.
If you arrive before the surf group’s departure , we will also assist you at the airport and transfer you to a hotel of your choice, until departure to the Mentawai. Note that the nights in Padang, if any, are not included in our prices.
Day 2 - Arrival on Siloinak Island
The ferry is a modern, comfortable, reliable and on-time vessel with AC cabins of 2 and 4 bunks, one shared shower, by far the most comfortable way to travel 130 km (about 8/10 hours) to the Mentawai Archipelago.
The ferry reaches the harbor of Muara Siberut or Tuapajat on the second day of your journey, at 8:00. From the Siberut or Tuapajat harbor, our speedboats take you to Siloinak Resort, a 70/120 -minute boat ride. We will arrive around 13:00, right on time for lunch.
Day 3 to Day 5 Stay at Siloinak Island
Enjoy your stay on your private island: the water in the lagoon is 28° Celsius, sometimes 32°! You can choose to do strictly nothing, snorkel around the island or participate to the following activities, once a week.

Departure on a speed boat at 7 am. Beautiful mangrove crossing... Meal on a beach. Return to Siloinak in the afternoon.
Day 6 Departure to your "Mentawai Discovery".
On board light motor pirogues, we venture through a mangrove until reaching a river. The river's water draught is quite limited. Early afternoon, we arrive at the uma, the main house of the Mentawai clan that welcomes us. We set up large Coleman "dome" tents. We provide each adventurer with a comfortable camping mattress. There are two people per tent. Individual tents are available for an extra cost.
Day 7 and Day 8 Stay in a Mentawai "long house".
Wake up for a bath in the river. Breakfast: Indonesian tea and coffee, bread, sago, jam, eggs. Daily activities: fishing with the women; sago processing, manufacturing a rattan basket, making the sago, (the staple food of the Mentawaians), and baking it; manufacturing a bow and arrows and making the poison for the arrows; bark cloth processing. And if we are lucky, we will witness a shaman ceremony. We can explore at leisure the surroundings and visit other clans. At dusk, dinner at our camp, the food is a mixture of Indonesian classics and Western favorites.
Day 9 Back to the harbor and night cruise to Padang.
After breakfast, a pirogue rides back to Muara Siberut or Tuapajat Harbor in 3 to 4 hours. Transfer directly to the ferry. Departure around 18:00. Dinner on board.
Day 10 Arrival at Padang and end of the trip ( Monday).
Breakfast in Padang and transfer to the airport for travelers departing the same day. Transfer to your hotel in Padang town centre for the others. End of our services at 18:00.

Optional day
If you whish to stay at Padang one day more, we propose you a day of discovery of the Minang Kabau culture in the green hills of Bukittinggi. Your guide and a driver will introduce you to coffee plantations, wood carving workshop, silversmiths, and songket workshops. Accommodation at Padang. Lunch and dinner included.
End of Program - Flying back home
The next morning, after breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your hotel. Transfer to the airport for flying back home. Lunch and Dinner are not included.
