Do
we really need to tell you that the Mentawai Islands are
one of the world’s most consistent surf destinations?
If you surf, you already know that!
The Mentawais are directly exposed to the Indian Ocean
“roaring forties” swell. From April to October,
surfers from intermediate to advanced level, will find
the best surf experience of their lives.
Moreover, the potential for fishing, snorkelling and ecotourism
is quite remarkable. Our sister company Mentawai Adventure
organizes a wide range of easy treks and activities in
these off-the-beaten-track islands, allowing you some
extras or your friend to enjoy a trek while you surf.
What
Nick Carrol says about our waves:
" Suddenly we were drifting
into something straight out of the old Hippie Surf Art
manuals of the early 1970s: a tropical white sand beach;
a tiny wood-hut village among the palms; sun rising over
the sea; perfectly formed surf curling itself around a
coral reef.
" The waves aren't the dramatic,
over-powered explosions of winter Hawaii, or the almost
supernatural, curving menace of southwest Tahiti. They're
silky, perfectly formed and balanced. They swing among
the islands in a refracted dance around deepwater reefs
and tidal channels, and bend into quick, delicate shapes.
The water is 28ºC. It's probably the best surf in
the world.
